Canadian artists, academics, business people call on Toronto to declare state of emergency over homelessness

Jody Steinhauer was among a group of Canadian business leaders who signed an open letter urging the City of Toronto to declare a state of emergency over the growing homelessness crisis. The letter, part of a coordinated effort across artists, academics, and the business community, calls for immediate action and a collaborative response from all levels of government.

As one of the signatories of the business sector letter, Jody Steinhauer added her voice to a growing call for safer short-term options and a long-term affordable housing plan, following what the letter describes as “20 years of neglect.” The campaign reflects a shared concern that the situation has reached an unacceptable level, with shelter capacity exceeding safe thresholds and lives being lost.
