My Story
Want to know what drives me?
Hi, I’m Jody!
I’m Jody Steinhauer. I believe giving back makes great business sense.
I’ve spent my life proving that you can build a thriving business and change the world at the same time.
As the founder, CEO and Chief Bargain Officer of The Bargains Group, I’ve mobilized what began as a small dream in my apartment living room—just a desk and a rack of clothes—into a multi-million-dollar social enterprise with a single, unwavering purpose: to help others do more with less.
Since 1988, I’ve used my network of resources and leveraged buying power to ensure every company, non-profit, and front-line agency I work with can maximize their budgets and expand their reach—all while weaving generosity into the heart of every transaction.
I’m proud to be a recipient of awards such as Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, but what matters more to me is how those recognitions helped amplify my message: “Giving back makes GREAT business sense.”
A Legacy of Impact
My commitment to social change took shape in 1999 when I founded the charity Engage and Change, which helps thousands of people experiencing homelessness in the GTA survive Canada’s extreme weather through the distribution of survival kits. Each year, over 7,000 kits are packed and distributed by volunteers of all ages and backgrounds—families, students, workplaces—who want to make a hands-on difference in their communities. That spirit of collective giving is what continues to drive me.
As the need grew, so did the opportunity to scale. That’s when I launched Kits For A Cause, a social enterprise dedicated to connecting businesses, schools, and community groups with charities through meaningful kit-packing events. Between 2018 and 2023 alone, we:
- Engaged over 120,000 volunteers
- Delivered more than 750,000 kits
- Supported over 5,000 charities globally
- And created over $11 million in measurable impact
